What's Different about Redman in 2009?
There are a number of changes in store for our event this year! Leave no doubt, we will do all we can to keep the tone, look and feel of the event the same. We strive to maintain, the accessibility and athlete-friendly approach that have built the reputation of our race.

Following is a quick trip through the things that will be different from our norm for the 2009 event. We will revert to our normal athlete limits, cutoff times, and pricing for typical years. Our format will change in each of the years that Redman is the host of the Halfmax and Club Championships. At this point, we are scheduled to be the host in 2012, 2015, etc.

Cutoff number for entries:

For 2009, REDMAN will accept the first 25 entrants in each of both the Full and Half Aquabike, the first 150 entrants (including individual team members) for the Full Distance Triathlon, the first 250 General Entry participants of the Halfmax Championship Triathlon, the first 550 Qualifying athletes for the Halfmax Championship Triathlon (USAT/ Halfmax Long Course National Championships) for the Saturday races. In
addition, 1000 spots will be up for athletes for both the Sprint and Olympic Distance Triathlons as part of the 2009 USAT Club National Championships to be held on Sunday. Competitors in the Sprint and Olympic distance events DO NOT have to be members of a USAT Club.

(See www.halfmaxchampionship.com for Halfmax Championship qualifying details, also be aware that all qualifiers will have been contacted by the folks at Ultramax)

Registration:

When the question is asked, “Do I have to qualify to enter the event?” The typical answer for our event is "NO". However, our 2009 event is a different animal. As per the typical, no qualification is necessary for the Aquabike, Full or Halfmax Championship  "General Entry" spots. However, as part of the Redman's participation in the USAT Halfmax National Championship athlete's wishing to enter the "Qualifying Halfmax" spots must have qualified (finished in the top 33% of their age group at one of  the selected qualifying events, or the top 44% of their age group in one of 3 "super-qualifying" events, or have met a qualifying time at a non-qualifying event.) Only qualifying athletes are eligible for the World Championship Slots. General Entry athlete’s ARE NOT ELIGIBLE for the World Championship slots.

See the Halfmax Championship qualifying details at www.halfmaxchampionship.com

Competitors in the Sprint and Olympic distance events DO NOT  have to be members of a USAT Club. The event will be scored as the USAT Club National Championship but it is open to general entry.

See www.usatriathlon.org site for complete Club Championship information and roster submission deadlines.

Team USA

Since the 2009 Redman is part of the National Championship series of events and is a qualifier for positions on Team USA, and hence participation at the World Championships, USAT is requesting “age-up” results from our race. It is our goal then, to communicate this process to the athletes participating in our 2009 events.

Here is how the age-up process works: At 2009 Nationals, athletes will race in their appropriate age groups based on their age as of December 31, 2009. Awards will be issued based on those results. If an athlete "ages up" into another age group in 2009, a separate set of results will be issued accounting for those athletes who aged up and Team USA slots will be awarded based on these results. So their finish time will be compared to those athletes in the older age group. For example, if John Doe is going to be 49 years old by December 31, 2009, he will naturally age-up up into the 50-54 age group for the 2010 World Championships since he will be 50 years old by December 31, 2010. Thus, for Team USA qualifying purposes, his time at the qualification event will be compared to the men currently in the 50-54 age group.

The Team USA qualification for the 2009 Long Course Tri National Championships is as follows:

There will be a minimum of 12 slots per age group awarded at the championship. (specific number of slots and roll downs to be announced at a later date)

*The date and location of the 2010 World Championships have not been announced by ITU.

*Please find additional information about Team USA on this site under the Athlete FAQ's (just after the awards section) or visit the USAT site and locate the Team USA tab.

Banquet and Awards Ceremony:

Due to the large number of athletes and the enormity of the task of running a two day event, we have chosen to forego the awards banquet for the 09 event. The awards banquet has become an important and almost sacred part of our connection with the participating athletes. It is because of the importance and the focus of the banquet that we feel, due to our duties away from the banquet (Sundays events) that we cannot do justice to it’s significance. Race staff having multiple tasks on Sunday, including a responsibility to the Sprint and Oly athletes and their well being, will be best served by keeping the focus at the race site. Hence, we will hold podium award presentations at the race site.

The current awards schedule includes:

Saturday, 9/19/09, 4:30 pm, Halfmax Championship Podium Awards Presentation

Sunday, 9/20/09, 10:00 am, Full Distance and Olympic Distance Podium Awards Presentation

Sunday, 9/20/09, 1:30 pm, Sprint Distance Podium Awards Presentation
