We are changing the swim course this year to accommodate a more swimmer friendly course for the athlete and their fans. It will be posted on the site shortly for your review. Less turns, longer straight aways!

I just reviewed the new swim course and noticed on the satellite picture there is an area labeled "Wave Start Corral" however the schedule of events indicates a mass start. Was this also a change this year? If so, is there a schedule for the wave start?

Etzelmiller,

Pardon the oversight. The Full event will be a mass start and the half, due to the increase in size will be a wave start.

All of the details will be covered in the Athlete's Guide coming to all registered athletes via a broadcast e-mail on Wednesday the 5th.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave:

What are the time intervals between the waves?

Have there been problems with the Full swimmers on the second lap overtaking slower swimmers?

For the Full, do the swimmers remain in the water to begin the second lap or do they get out, go over a timing mat, and then re-enter the water?

Hi Brian-

Sorry for the slow response, but the board isn't all that active this time of year and we forget to check. FOr 2007, I think there was a 10 minute gap between the Full and the next wave. Betyween the other waves it was 5 minutes. And yes, the fastest of the swimmers did overtake some of the slower swimmers in the last wave, but the filed was pretty spread out by then and it didn't appear to be a problem.

We do not have the Full swimmers get out of the water between laps.

We look forward to seeing you in 2009!
