| I've done the half-iron the last two years at the Redman, and I'm wondering if it is to late in the cycle to start training for the full. I haven't been on the bike or swimming hardly at all, but I've been running 40-50 miles per week for OKC marathon. I would love any advice from the vets of the full. Thanks in advance. |

| Not a vet so I assume my opinion doesn't count but I'll give it anyway. Sure I would say there is enough time to kick start the biking and with that run base I would say give it a go! |

| No problem!!l. My first IM I was basically in the same boat you were and started biking and swimming in April for a Sept IM race. I finished Middle of pack but finished solid..You can increase biking and swimming much more aggressively than the 5-10% rule of running and get away with it because they're non weight bearing. I've seen people increase bike fitness dramatically in a few weeks. You really should have no problem getting in shape, start training NOW!! Get a plan and go!! I'll see you at the race!! |

| I'm following a 20 week plan that doesn't start till May 6th. So I think you would have plenty of time to get your bike and swim base up. |

| OK. I am in the same situation. Training for Macon half. Currently longest ride is 65 with an hour run after. I did the Knoxville marathon 4/1/2007. I am up to a mile on the swim, but it takes me around 45 minutes. My dream is to finish an ironman. I feel ok about the running, but am feeling real nervous about the bike and swim. Can I do this? I am happy being the last finisher, but want to finish. |

[/quote] If you can ride 65 and run for an hour afterwards at this point in the season, I think there's still time that you can get ready and do it. Swimming will be easy to attain, as long as you stay consistent with workouts. Sounds like bike is okay (and running is fine), but bike will be where you need to spend the bulk of your training time. You can do it! |

| Based on being able to do 65 mile bike and an hour run, you should have no problem ramping up the training in the next 17 weeks. Get a schedule/training plan and get going based on where the plan states you should be doing at this time. As far as swimming, you should be able to get to 2.4 miles by race day. I like to do a few continuous 2.4 mile swims in the pool to get the confidence and training effect. I think since your concerned about swimming, I think for confidence it will be important to do some 2.4 mile swims to get confidence. See you in september!!!! |

| Thanks for the reply and suggestions. I am registered....and a little nervous. I guess this means no taper for Macon. I will attempt to try to follow the beginning ironman schedule several referred to on the message board and adjust for work and family. I will place a lot of emphasis on ramping up the swim total and plan on finding a couple of centuries close to home-Knoxville, Tennessee. Looking at the current list, I am the old woman of the group. | Does anyone know of a good swim coach they would recommend? I am a tri-newbie and need confidence in my swimming. This will be my first time to complete a half ironman and need all the help I can get. I am here in OKC. |
