Dave and all, I just want to send out a huge thank you to all of those who participated in making the Redman 2007 race a success. After racing tris for over 20 years, this was my first iron-distance race and it was truly an amazing experience. From the moment I was helped out of my wetsuit to the dozens of volunteers on the bike course at each intersection and driveway and at each aid station, not to mention all the incredible support on the run course at the aid stations and at the transition area -- it was simply incredible. I had never really thought about how many people and how much effort it takes to pull off such an enormous event until I actually had the opportunity to "tour" the course as a racer. As we were leaving the park for the comfort of our hotel room at 9:00 pm after finishing, there were many racers still out on the course. After having been up early (all night?) on Friday setting up the course, volunteers were still out there supporting racers throughout the night. Phenomenal!! I'm not sure who needed the most endurance: the race director and volunteers or the athletes themselves!! Thanks, Dave, for an amazing race. It was the toughest and most satisfying distance event I have ever participated in -- and I've done many! Without the distraction of Hawaii qualifying and without the big sponsors and high profile racers, I felt like a star out there! Thanks for all your hard work. I hope the Redman keeps going! Let's hope for cooler temps next year! Paul Eppard |

Paul, Wow! What a great post! Thanks for all of your wonderful comments and acknowledgement of the efforts of the volunteers! We too appreciate the "simplicity" of the event. You must know too, how incredibly gratifying it is for all of us to witness the awesome grit and determination it takes to participate in, train for and accomplish the goals the athletes have set for themselves. We enjoy the day as much as you relish the accomplishment. We too will pray for a cooler day in 08'. Thanks, Dave |
